Hillary Clinton is a difficult face to do a caricature of. I’m balancing making a caricature and also making sure it doesn’t come across as a personal attack on how I feel about her. In truth, I’m indifferent to her. I put politicians all in one soup. No Dems, no Repubs, to quote  a line from The Onion, “Politicians win election” Same crap goes on it just might be a little more reddish or blue-ish consistency.

A few weeks ago I spent several days talking to kids at a private school called Collegiate in NYC. The ages were from 8 to 16-ish? I’m terrible at noticing ages. I spoke about caricatures and freelance and how it might relate to stuff they might do in life. I know it’s a “stretch” but I was trying to earn my fee! HA! Everything went fantastic I didn’t swear in front of any 8 year olds, it was good. One observance I had was how the kids would interpret what a caricature was. Or rather Why I was doing that to their face. Did I hate them? Why would he make my ears so big!?!? Or a few walked away thinking they were boring to look at because I didn’t make fun of their obvious pointy nose or unibrow.

I’ve been making caricatures professionally since 1985. I have a more clinical approach to caricatures today. Getting back to Hillary, I just see another face to exaggerate, but because of the public perception of her, the face is charged with other people’s baggage. I try to keep it as neutral as I can instead of enjoying every wrinkle I can see. Yes, I’m doing it for you. Come to think of it, as much fun as Hillary would be, I think Mick Jagger or Keith Richards would be an “all-you-can-eat” of wrinkles to do!
